Advisory Notes: October 2, 2019

October 2, 2019

**Please let all students know that the advisory announcements are posted to www.bhsecqstudentlife.com/

every week**

(10th-Y2 students) If you want to be a Peer Tutor but you did not attend last week's meeting, please come today's meeting! It will be from 3:40-3:55 in the library.

If you cannot attend, please see Gabe in the library before Friday.

(All students) Our names are Elan and Layla, and we are the presidents of The Hype literary journal for BHSECQ. We are Year 2 students and we are currently looking for young journalists, writers, and all creative types to join. We publish original student work, from prose to poetry to art, with the option of submitting these works anonymously. If you have writing to share, if you want to write in the future, if you have any images or art you want to share with us, or if you have any questions about being a part of The Hype, email either of us at er963q@bhsec.bard.edu or lr675q@bhsec.bard.edu;

(All students) Are you interested in being involved in the organization and planning of our third annual Black Lives Matter (BLM) Day of Action at BHSECQ (Jan 28, 2020)? If so, please consider coming to the first organizing meeting, which will take place after school this Friday, October 4th in room 624. You can email Dr. Kadison at skadison@bhsec.bard.edu to be added to the email list to stay in the loop, even if you are not available for meetings. We hope to see you there!

The first meeting for the city-wide Black Lives Matter Week of Action for New York City will take place on Thursday, October 3rd, from 5-7pm at the People’s Forum, 320 West 37th Street in Manhattan - students are encouraged to come!! For more info on what the BLM NYC Week of Action is, talk to Ymorah B. or Christel R. and please visit the website: https://blacklivesmatteratschool.com/

The tshirt contest for the Black Lives Matter National Week of Action NYC is already underway! The tshirt must have the words “Black Lives Matter at NYC Schools.” The design must be one color and high resolution for printing onto tshirts. To see tshirts from previous years, check out: https://www.facebook.com/BLMEdu/ Please email submissions to blmeduny@gmail.com - ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY NOV 1. Keep an eye out for a tshirt contest for our BHSECQ Day of Action coming soon!! (Hold onto your designs!)

(Year 1 Students) The official CTO process starts next semester when you will be paired with a CTO advisor but until then, I wanted to make you aware of what's written there and the ways in which you can get involved in the CTO process early!

1. Save the Date! Year One Student and Family CTO Kick-Off - Wednesday, November 11th - 6:00-7:30 in the auditorium.

2. Check out the Calendar for Upcoming Fall College Rep Visits for Y1's and Y2's or see the calendar outside the CTO. Year Ones' are STRONGLY encouraged to attend these visits in their free periods! All visits take place in the College Transfer Office in the Back of the Library (it's bigger than it looks and we have lollipops). These are a GREAT way to get a head start on the admissions process!

3. Follow Us: IG @bhsecqueenscto & BHSECQ CTO Channel - we host AMA's and post videos from alumni and CTO related content.

4. Sign up for Text Messages from the CTO: Class of 2021 (Y1) Students and Parents/Guardians - this is the BEST way to stop on top of CTO related announcements!

5. Finally, I can always use help in the CTO sorting through materials, putting up posters and updating records. Stop by if you are interested! Must be detail-oriented and be able to commit to two periods a week.

You can always find these links in my emails at the bottom!
