Advisory Notes for February 13, 2019

(All students) Valentine's Day is this Thursday, and if you haven't gotten your valentine anything yet, here's your chance! The Year 2s will be selling carnations for $3 before school and 1st period on Wednesday! The sellers will be located at the front tables near the security desk on the 6th floor, and the flowers will be given out during advisory! So be sure to buy your special someone a flower!


(All students) Spirit Week is this week (Monday, February 11th- Friday, February 15th)! Be sure to spread the word and participate.

Wednesday- Worldwide Wednesday

Thursday- Throwback Thursday

Friday- Formal Friday


(All students) Spring Outdoor Track Tryouts have been moved from February 25th at the 7th floor to February 26th at McCarren Park at 4pm. Tryouts are led by Y2 captains Marc Mapeke and Olu Alamutu. Look for Coach Leizman or Coach Golas or Coach Winston and make sure to have a signed consent form and stamped physical.


(All students) Calling all artists to create a logo for TechFest 2019! We are looking for designs for t-shirts, pins, stickers, and note-pads. The logo must have the following criteria:

- the phrase “TechFest 2019”

- the phrase "Queens High School Complex"

- logo relates to tech (coding, artificial intelligence, robots, etc.)

- be simple, but original and creative!

Any art that will not be used as our logo will be put on our website (currently under construction) or other branding materials. All submissions should be sent as a PDF or easily downloadable file by Feb. 25th to techfest.qhsc@gmail.com.

If you are interested in helping plan this tech conference, we meet on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in rm. 616.

(All students) Do you want a chance to experience the talent here at Bard?

Well you're in luck because next week, Bards of Bard Poetry Club will be hosting Open Mic Night on Wednesday the 13th, at 3:50pm in the black box theatre!! Posters will begin to fill the hallways, and a sign up sheet will be posted on the Black box theatre door (for those who are sure they will perform). Entry is free and you do not need to perform in order to come by and support your peers. Poetry, Stories, Music, Jokes, it doesn't matter, we would love to hear whatever you have to offer. Contact Nicholas Lindsay, or Paula Jankowski for any further information.

Please spread the word and we hope to see you there!!


(All students) If you would like to be a peer tutor this semester, and you have not already signed up with Gabe, please come to the meeting today after school at 3:30 in the library. It should last about 15 minutes. If you cannot attend this meeting, please see Gabe in the library before the start of break. Tutoring will officially begin when we return from the week off.


(All students) Any student interested in registering for this year’s NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival should pick up a registration form in room 634 as soon as possible. NYSSMA is the New York Schools of Music Association, and holds an annual festival in which students perform for adjudicators and receive a score with written feedback based on their performance. The deadline for all registration forms is Friday April 5th. Please see the music department with any questions you may have.


(All students) If you are interested in playing basketball after school, please contact Sahibdeep Singh. The Bard Basketball League is looking for new members!
